The path to true Gnosis is often symbolized in Masonic ritual with what is called the Tracing Board and the letter G would represent the word “Gnosis.” The Masons are who we could call the inheritors of the ancient Gnostic teachings, mysteries and symbols that went underground after the advent of early Christianity.
This image to the right shows the seven steps representing the seven levels of consciousness that a Mason must climb in order to reach their own Gnosis. Starting at step one or the 1st degree, the Mason is clearly shown they must work daily at obtaining the wisdom and truth that is needed to ascend to the light.
What many Masons fail to realize along their path in that these Gnostic teachings are not just about serving thyself to reach a selfish state of Gnosis, but also to serve others. It is treating all people with respect, light and love and not just their Masonic Brethren.
