In this quote below, Swiss Gnostic, Cal Jung talks about how the problem of squaring the circle represents unity represented by a circle 
and the four elements by a square. The goal of the Gnostic through alchemy is to become the “One” by means of distillations so that the “soul” or “spirit” shall be extracted in its purest state.

G. W. Snyder was a Lutheran minister who wrote a letter to President George Washington in 1978 expressing his concern about the 
Illuminati in the United States. He included a copy of John Robinson’s Proofs of a Conspiracy against All the Religions and Governments of Europe, published in Philadelphia in 1798 which was in GW’s library at his death. This correspondence was one of many between Snyder and George Washington on the Illuminati.

rites of the Craft. He also adds that Pike had said that the true meanings of much of the symbolism such familiar emblems as the apron and the pillars were locked mysteries, whose “keys” had been thrown away by the uninformed.
