The Symbology and History of the Triangle △

The Symbology and History of the Triangle △

Perhaps no other ancient symbol in the world is more important and recognized by all nations than the Triangle △.

The triangle has always been considered to be sacred from its earliest associations with mathematics, philosophy, and religion.

Since time immemorial, it has been used to represent diety and the active principle in the form of fire that pervades all nature and life as we know it.

This is why we find the triangle commonly used in many religions and belief systems, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Freemasonry, Gnosticism, Rosicrucianism, and Kabbalah to name a few.

From the great pyramids of Egypt to the Star of David and Signet of Solomon (Two interlaced triangles) and its association with the “Eye of Providence,” sometimes referred to as the “All-Seeing Eye of God” and “The Grand Architect of the Universe (T.G.A.O.T.U)” to modern mathematics.

The Greek philosopher, Plato once said that the world was built from triangles.

It is a geometric shape that has three points, upon which it can stand. It is also a stable shape because as you add more sides, it gets more stable.

At its essence, the triangle and number 3 represent the balance and stability between the three worlds of human existence – earth, heaven, and hell.

Many of know the triangle and eye from the U.S. Great Seal and the back of the dollar bill.

The triangle has also been used for hundreds of years as a symbol of the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Often depicted in Christian iconography as a triangular halo with rays of light emanating as a sign of God’s radiance.

In Judaism, the Star of David and Signet of Solomon shows two interlaced triangles.

One triangle is upright and the other is inverted to represent the two main forces in nature – the light and dark, good and evil, ignorance and wisdom, and active and passive.

The point-up triangle can also represent fire – the male energy or masculine elements. The point-down triangle represents matter, and the earth – female energies and feminine elements.

As it relates to humans, we can safely state that it symbolizes the union of body, mind, and spirit, or heaven, earth, and water, and its mastery over these elements.

Throughout the symbology of Freemasonry, you will find the most prominent of all symbols is the triangle, which is also represented by the number 3 and the structure of a pyramid.

According to Freemason and historian, Albert Mackey, there is no symbol as significant as the triangle and was adopted by all nations in early antiquity as a symbol of deity. Mackey had wrote;

“There is no symbol more important in its significance, more various in its application, or more generally diffused throughout the whole system of Freemasonry, than the triangle. An examination of it, therefore, cannot fail to be interesting to the Masonic student.

The equilateral triangle appears to have been adopted by nearly all the nations of antiquity as a symbol of the Deity, in some of his forms or emanations, and hence, probably, the prevailing influence of this symbol was carried into the Jewish system, where the Yod within the triangle was made to represent the Tetragrammaton, or sacred name of God.

The equilateral triangle, says Brother D. W. Nash (Freemasons Magazine iv, page 294), “viewed in the light of the doctrines of those who gave it currency as a divine symbol, represents the Great First Cause, the Creator and Container of all things, as one and indivisible, manifesting Himself in an infinity of forms and attributes in this visible universe.”(Source: Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry)”

In Freemasonry, and other mystery schools like Rosicrucianism, it is a representation of the metaphysical joining together your physical self with your spiritual self to create harmony and balance within yourself and the world.

According to Freemason and author, Manly P. Hall:

“Man’s threefold lower nature—consisting of his physical organism, his emotional nature, and his mental faculties—reflects the light of his threefold Divinity and bears witness of It in the physical world.

Man’s three bodies are symbolized by an upright triangle; his threefold spiritual nature by an inverted triangle.

These two triangles, when united in the form of a six-pointed star, were called by the Jews “the Star of David,” “the Signet of Solomon,” and are more commonly known today as “the Star of Zion.”

These triangles symbolize the spiritual and material universes linked together in the constitution of the human creature, who partakes of both Nature and Divinity.

Man’s animal nature partakes of the earth; his divine nature of the heavens; his human nature of the mediator.” (The Secret Teachings of All Ages)

Albert Pike said;

The ingenious and mystical idea which caused the Triangle to be venerated, was applied to the figure 4 (4). It was said that it expressed a living being, I, bearer of the Triangle △, the emblem of God; i.e., man bearing with himself a Divine principle (Albert Pike, Morals and Dogma, 1871, 632-633).

The Ancient History of the Triangle

The mysteries of the triangle were first invented by Pythagoras who gave us the Pythagorean theorem, or Pythagoras’ theorem, which is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle.

The Pythagorean theorem states that with a right-angled triangle, the sum of the squares of the two sides that form the right angle is equal to the square of the third, longer side, which is called the hypotenuse. This allows you to determine the length of the hypotenuse with the equation a2 + b2 = c2, in which a and b represent the two sides of the right angle and c is the long side.

He was was also credited with devising the tetractys, the triangular figure of four rows which add up to the perfect number, ten.

After Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher Plato was one of the first people that considered the world to have been built from triangles with the number 3 being a sacred mathematical number that has helped form its structure.

Platonic triangles are now referred to as triads, have been proven by science to be the fundamental building blocks in nature, society, technology, and mathematics.

We can see the triangle is representative of the Egyptian pyramids. It is a symbol of power, stability, and strength. The pyramid was known as Mer which means “place of ascent” – a place where a person’s soul could ascend after death.

It was the Ancient Egyptians who would influence the Greeks through the great philosophers such as Plato and Plutarch that would later become incorporated into Christianity by Rome and also by the Freemasons.

Plutarch said that the Egyptians worshipped Osiris, Isis, and Horus in the form of a triangle. He stated that they believed that everything perfect has three parts and there good God made himself threefold, while the evil God remained single.

Plutarch had written about the nature and divine status of the triangle in On Isis and Osiris in Moralia;

“Now the better and more divine nature consists of three; or of the intelligible part, of matter, and of that which is made up of both, which the Greeks call Cosmos (that is trimness) and we the world.

Plato, therefore, uses to name the intelligible part the form, the sample, and the father; and matter the mother, the nurse, and the seat and receptacle of generation; and that again which is made up of both, the offspring and the production.

And one would conjecture that the Egyptians called it the most perfect of triangles, because they likened the nature of the universe principally to that; which Plato also in his Commonwealth seems to have made use of for the same purpose, when he forms his nuptial diagram.”

In Plato’s dialog Timaeus, he explains the fundamental triad when he writes, “two things cannot be rightly put together without a third; there must be some bond of union between them.” He also presents this triad in his dialog Philebus as Beauty, Truth, and Measure (metriotes) or Symmetry (symmetria) and a related Platonic Triad is, (One, Intellect, Soul).

According to Plato, all the physical world elements are only reflections of the corresponding Forms (Ideas) from the World of Ideas.

If the world was truly built from triangles as Plato said and as we learn from the Freemasons, that it represents the emblem of God. What is called the Great First Cause, the Creator and Container of all things, as one and indivisible, manifesting Himself in an infinity of forms and attributes in this visible universe.

Then can we now identify an element or cause with modern science to see what the triangle truly represents and if the world is truly built from triangles?

Yes, I believe that I have done just that as I will explain in my article, Plato’s Fire: How the world is made of phosphorus tetrahedrons.

The Nazi Black Sun

The Nazi Black Sun

The Black Sun has been symbolized and used by various alchemists and occultists for well over 500 years. As I explained in my article, Black Sun Rising, this symbol is also known as the “Invisible Sun” and called by its Latin name, Sol Niger, and the German Schwarze Sonne, and the Sonnenrad German for Sun Wheel.

High-ranking Nazi officials eventually chose the symbol of the Black Sun to symbolize the force or energy they would channel to spread their ideologies around the globe and conquer their enemies.

However, the Nazis would use a modified version of the symbol of the Black Sun (German: Schwarze Sonne), adding twelve radial sig runes rather than the Traditional symbology, which did not contain the sig runes up until that time.

It has been theorized that the development of the Nazi Black Sun symbology was due to several SS leaders who were very much deep into the occult and esoteric studies. People like Rudolph Hess, Wilhelm Landig, and Karl Maria Miligut whose research influenced Hitler’s #1 man, Heinrich Himmler, and the German National Socialist ideologies who used this unseen force to fuel their war campaigns.

The NAZI Black Sun first appeared in Nazi Germany during World War II in 1933 when Heinrich Himmler created the central meeting place and spiritual home for the Schutzstaffel (SS) at the Wewelsburg Castle.

A place that he considered the new “center of the world (Axis Mundi)” for the Black Order’s ideologies.

The SS revered the castle as a place of mystical power, and I believe that the Black Sun had played a huge part in their initial war campaigns. The medieval castle was located near the site of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, where German tribesmen defeated the armies of Rome in 9 BC and what was called “First Holy Roman Empire.”

Himmler was said to have redesigned the castle and named its rooms after military heroes in Teutonic history and folklore, such as King Arthur, King Henry the Lion, Widikund, and Frederick the Great.

Himmler leased the castle for 100 years at $1 Reichstag yearly and remodeled it with a special room with the Black Sun (German: Schwarze Sonne) painted initially green and inlaid into the floor as one of their main symbols.

A Swastika also adorns the ceiling of the ‘Circular Crypt’, which is directly below the main floor with the Schwarze Sonne, and it has a gas pipe in the floor for an eternal flame 12 pedestals at even intervals around the walls.

It was initially a “Reichsführer school” for SS officers known as Hitler’s personal guard but later became a central meeting place and for occult ceremonies and initiations for the highest SS officers. These highest-ranking officers were known as the “Obergruppenführer” (Upper-Group-Leaders).

It was said that to secret initiates of the highest rank within the Third Reich, the abbreviation “SS” did not represent “Schutzstaffel” but the words “Schwarze Sonne” meaning “Black Sun” in English, and the number twelve as significant for “the things of the target and the completion.”

According to research commissioned by the Third Reich, it was believed that their Germanic ancestors believed in “a grand force or a grand god on earth and in the life of all beings and facts” in which the Black Sun was symbolic of this force or god.

A symbol which some have said to be like a “shadow” of the spiritual Black Sun whose dark solar power could provide enough voltage for the rebirth of the Aryan Nation.

An ancient force called “Vrill” that is also known in other alchemical traditions as Chi, the Odic force, the Orgone, and Astral Light.

In the 1871 book, The Coming Race by the occultist Edward Bulwer-Lytton, within the earth’s interior is a special force he dubbed “Vril” in which a subterranean species of Giants who derived their power or force from a large ball of “Prima Materia” called the Black Sun providing energy to these inhabitants of the inner earth.

It was through these myths and Nationalism that German secret societies formed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries had wanted to control the powerful Vril force to become superhuman.

Former SS member and who was called Himmler’s Rasputin, Rudolf J. Mund had said of the Black Sun;

“Everything that can be comprehended by human senses is material, the shadow of the invisible spiritual light. The material fire is – seen in this way – also just the shadow of the spiritual fire.”

According to the author, Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke who had written the most authoritative history of esoteric nazism called the – Black Sun; “The former SS member Wilhelm Landig of the Vienna Circle (esoteric) “coined the idea of the Black Sun, a substitute swastika and mystical source of energy capable of regenerating the Aryan race.”

In 1939, German author Hermann Rauschning had written the book ‘Hitler Speaks’ where he claims that “Hitler surrendered himself to forces that carried him away. He turned himself over to a spell, which can, with good reason and not simply in a figurative analogy, be described as demonic magic.”

I think symbols can be modified and perverted to be used for whatever you choose, as in the case of the NAZI Black Sun.

The reality of humanity is that there is a shadow and dark side to us all.

If unleashed and tapped into, a Dark Force that can make humans who choose this path do incredibly evil things that most people cannot even imagine.

If fed, an inner Beast that becomes stronger and more ruthless as time moves on, no matter the person, race, or nationality.

One that can turn into the perfect military killing machine in which the NAZI’s not only exemplified but embraced.

IS THE BLACK SUN SYMBOL STRICTLY A NAZI OF RACIST SYMBOL?

According to the ADL, they have officially stated that the Black Sun symbol is not a hate symbol on its own and should be analyzed in the context that it is used;

“The sonnenrad or sun wheel is one of a number of ancient European symbols appropriated by the Nazis in their attempt to invent an idealized “Aryan/Norse” heritage. The sonnenrad appears in the traditional symbology of many countries and cultures, including Old Norse and Celtic cultures.

It has countless variations; the swastika and similar rounded variants are actually sonnenrad forms, as are certain versions of the Celtic Cross. In Nazi Germany, the Nazi Party, the SA and the SS all used sonnenrad symbology at times, which has led neo-Nazis and other modern white supremacists to adopt such images.

One sonnenrad version in particular is popular among white supremacists: two concentric circles with crooked rays emanating from the inner circle to the outer circle. Often white supremacists will put another hate symbol such as a swastika in the center of the inner circle.

Because sonnenrad imagery is used by many cultures around the world, one should not assume that most sonnenrad-like images necessarily denote racism or white supremacy; rather, they should be analyzed carefully in the context in which they appear.”

According to the author, Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, the first connection between the Black Sun symbology of the Wewelsburg mosaic happened in 1991, which transformed the symbol as being “an esoteric symbol of the Nazis” and has been mainly used by Neo-Nazis since the 1990s”.

Black Sun Rising

Black Sun Rising

Hidden behind the history of the world lies the unseen forces and a second hidden history of religion, secret societies, secret orders, and their symbols.

One of these mysterious symbols is called the Black Sun, which represents one of the most essential parts of the invisible forces that govern the alchemical processes of all life.

Various esoteric teachings show us that it was known as “the shadow side of the sun,” whose name we know as the Black Sun and called by its Latin name, Sol Niger, the German Schwarze Sonne the Sonnenrad, German for Sun Wheel.

In Theosophy, it is known as the “Invisible Sun” and is connected in the occult sciences to prime or dark matter, earth, the Axis Mundi, a mother’s womb, the Self, and the unconscious or what Jung would call – the Collective Unconscious.

The word matter is derived from mater and also means Mother. It is from the Black Earth and our Mother’s dark womb that we humans are created on the So Within molding us into the person we will become in which we find God who said, “Let there be light,” and from this creation, we are born as co-creators with God on the So Without.

In Revelation of the Scripture, we learn of this “Sun black as sackcloth,” and in Joel, “the sun shall be turned into darkness” (Joel 2:30-31); and Isaiah says,” I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering” (Isaiah 1:3).

The Black Sun can also be called the Earth-Sun. A biological force or earth hive mind that molds our very realities from our bodies to our lives and eventually consumes and turns all things black.

This is why I believe we find the Black Sun microcosmologically represented in the pupil of the human eye, which is symbolic of the ancient inner Self or ‘I’ and connected to the macrocosmic – Black Sun.

When our outer gaze is turned inwards, we discover the connectedness with the hidden inner Self and of other beings and things of the ‘hidden’ reality and unseen forces of humanity whose study is formally called ‘The Occult’.

Symbolized also by the circumpunct that Manly P. Hall calls, “The most primitive and fundamental of all symbols is the dot.” (Lectures on Ancient Philosophy)

Hall had written;

The keys to all knowledge are contained in the dot, the line, and the circle.

The dot is universal consciousness, the line is universal intelligence, and the circle is universal force – the threefold, unknowable Cause of all knowable existence (the three hypostases of Atma).

In man the spirit is represented by the dot and conscious activity or intelligence by the line.

Conscious activity is the key to intelligence because consciousness belongs to the sphere of the dot and activity to the sphere of the circle.

The center and the circumference are thus blended in the connecting line – conscious activity or intelligence.

The circle is the symbol of body and body is the limit of the radius of the activity of mind power pouring out of the substance of consciousness,” Hall concluded.

As Comte de Saint Germain once said, “Attention is the key; for where man’s attention goes, there goes his energy, and he himself can only follow.”

And Carl Jung tells us, “Consciousness, no matter how extensive it may be, must always remain the smaller circle within the greater circle of the unconscious, an island surrounded by the sea; and, like the sea itself, the unconscious yields an endless and self-replenishing abundance of living creatures, a wealth beyond our fathoming.” (CW 16, Para 366)

In the psychological sense, the Black Sun symbolizes the Occult Power of the Microcosm of the Self.

Humans either consciously or unconsciously shape their very beings and the world of matter in their lives and the world around them. If we partake on the path of esoteric and occult knowledge, it can take us directly to the Dark Night of the Soul to confront our own shadow and face our sins and self-made Demons.

Marsilius Ficinus had described the Black Sun in “Liber de Arte Chemica”;

“The body must be dissolved in the subtlest middle air: The body is also dissolved by its own heat and humidity; where the soul, the middle nature holds the principality in the color of blackness all in the glass: which blackness of Nature the ancient Philosophers called the crows head, or the black sun.”

Here is an image of the Balck Sun’s Putrifaction emblem of Philosophia Reformata by Johann Daniel Mylius.

Carl Jung calls it the black earth and connects it with antimony;

“It is then the black earth in which the gold of the lapis is sown like the grain of wheat … It is the black, magically fecund earth that Adam took with him from Paradise, also called antimony and described as a ‘black blacker than black. ‘”

The Russian occultist and founder of Theosophy, Helena Blavatsky, said the black sun is also known as the invisible sun related to “prime matter and the unconscious.” She had written;

“The medieval alchemists spoke of the sol niger, the black or invisible sun which they related to prime matter and the unconscious. The visible sun is at the nadir, out of which depths it must ascend toward its zenith, the invisible apex that oversees the creation of light.”

According to Rudolph Steiner, the Sun sucks in light from cosmic space. Darkness itself is no mere absence of outwardly radiating light, but its inward radiation from a cosmic circumference towards a center – a ‘Black Sun’.

One of the earliest representations of the Black Sun comes to us from who is sometimes called the spiritual father of Paracelsus, Solomon Trismosin, who had created one of the modern classics of illuminated alchemical manuscripts called Splendor Solis (“The Splendor of the Sun”), written in approximately 1535.

It tells the story of how the alchemist intervenes in the mechanics of creation while at all times remaining in harmony with nature and supporting its growth. There are 20 copies worldwide, with the earliest version housed at the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) at State Museums in Berlin, and another copy created in 1582, is housed at the British Library, London.

I believe a famous person in having undergone this process is the 2nd Century Historian, Strabo, who had eluded to his forehead and some parts of his body are of a white color, the rest of his body being black.

Here is another image below from the manuscript of the Splendor Solis that I believe metaphysically shows what Strabo was alchemically describing but shows the white color as red. The person who is mainly black in color and naked emerging from a type of black lake and is greeted by a royal Goddess who is handing him a red cloak or overcoat for his reward.

The Black Sun holds primary sway over prima matter.

Thus, it serves as the creator, progenitor, and legislator of our very 666 Carbon bodies since the beginning of time.

An alchemical symbol refers to the birth, decay, and putrefaction, which is the first, middle, and ending stage of all alchemical processes.

One that I believe as time evolves we will learn scientifically deals with what is called Dark Matter and the sun turning black with sackcloth related to what I have called a “secret mycelium network or internet” that modern researchers suggest that matter in the universe is distributed in a “cosmic web” of filaments.

Cosmic filaments of massive thread-like web formations (sackcloth) comprising huge amounts of dark matter (Black Sun) which divide the universe into a vast gravitationally linked lattice interspersed with enormous dark matter voids.

Filaments and dark matter that I theorize connects us, humans, to one another and all life via specific fungal organisms that can act as our Archons to be either beneficial (symbiotic) or detrimental (parasitical).

We act as resonators for the very elementals and microorganisms that become our Archons.

An ancient and primordial connection to the all that is part of a hidden reality of who we are and is So Within and So Without us all.

The Secrets of Skull and Bones 322

The Secrets of Skull and Bones 322

“Deception is a state of mind and the mind of the State.” – James Jesus Angleton (Mother of the CIA)

One of the most infamous and powerful of all secret societies globally is called the American order of Skull and Bones that was founded in 1832 at Yale University.

The order is also known as “Bones”, and members are called “Bonesmen” who are some of the world’s most powerful elites, such as former President George HW Bush, his son George W. Bush, and former U.S. Secret of State, John Kerry to name a few.

The secrecy behind the order was confirmed by George W. Bush, who wrote in his autobiography, “[In my] senior year I joined Skull and Bones, a secret society; so secret, I can’t say anything more.”

Two Bonesmen, George W. Bush, and John Kerry, had both been Presidential candidates in the 2004 elections. When Kerry was asked what it meant that he and Bush were both Bonesmen, former Presidential candidate John Kerry said, “Not much, because it’s a secret.” George Bush eventually won his second term and continued his war campaign in Iraq.

The order was incorporated in 1856 by General William Huntington Russell and Alphonso Taft, who became Secretary of War under President Grant in 1876. The numerical value is 1+8+7+6 = 22, and the numerical motto for Skull and Bones is 322, or 3 x’s 22, which you will see below is not a coincidence.

In numerology, the number 22 is often called the Master Builder. The Phoenician-Hebrews possess 22 books, and their alphabet is made up of 22 letters, which was created to compose the Word of God. The Kabbalah teaches us that the letters of the Hebrew alphabet are the building blocks of the universe. The underlying occult scientific significance of the number 22 in science would represent the bones of the skull, of which there are twenty-two. 8 form the cranium or braincase, and 14 are associated with the face.

Our brains are what we use to think, reason, and come to know the divine or God. The 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet created to compose the Word of God are our 22 boned skulls and the place where we receive the light to become illuminated or enlightened beings. Hence, to be like Saint John and have our own Revelation.

This is why I believe Skull and Bones had chosen the number 22 as the master builders of a New World Order (NWO). This fact would be validated by Bonesmen, former CIA director and President, George HW Bush; who, in the video below taken from National television, makes no bones about their Apocalyptic plans for a New World Order. Please keep in mind that this speech of biblical proportions was done on 9-11-1991.

Now I would like to theorize about the number 66 and the connection to the Skull and Bones numerical motto of 322…

In the bible, the Number 66 is the numerical value of the Wheel from the Hebrew Galgal, which is very similar to the word Google; meaning a wheel, whirl, whirlwind, or simply Chaos. The meaning of Gal, Gul or Gull, is to trick or to cheat. The word “curse” is used 66 times in the Old Testament.

“As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel.” – Ezekiel 10.13

This chaos of tricks may indicate the CIA domestic counter-terrorism plan founded under Skull and Bones member James Jesus Angleton, who was called the “Mother of the Central Intelligence Agency.” Angleton was directly responsible for a domestic espionage project called Operation CHAOS, and had coined the phrase, “Deception is a state of mind and the mind of the State.”

This role of the CIA as chaos creators and secret scroll makers may be indicative of The Skull and Bones numerical motto of 322 (or 3×22=66) that we may be able to witness in Isaiah 66:16; “For with fire and with his sword the LORD will execute judgment on all people, and many will be those slain by the LORD.” This judgment is given to the Tribe of Judah who holds the Key as revealed in Isaiah 22.22: “And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut, and he shall shut, and none shall open.”

Did Skull and Bones place us all in a Catch-22 biblical predicament?

In the book Catch-22 by American author Joseph Heller, he portrays military rule typifying bureaucratic operation and reasoning. The novel is set in World War II, and Heller intentionally included anachronisms like loyalty oaths and computers (IBM machines). Catch-22 is often called one of the greatest literary works of the twentieth century.

If we are to look back at his writings, along with the secrets of the number 322, and with the CIA chosen as a type of agency whose task is given to create chaos, war and also biblically judge the people both domestically and abroad, we can now understand why this agency is shrouded in so much secrecy and surrounded by con-spirit-cies. Hell, that is their job, folks, and this is why we now use the term “Catch-22” to define a tricky problem or a no-win or absurd situation.

We can clearly see the truth for where we are at today with spin-off agencies from the CIA, such as the National Security Agency (NSA). The NSA’s claim to fame came from their warrantless surveillance controversy. It became widely known to the world that the Federal Government is spying and collecting intelligence in supercomputer files on Americans and other people around the world.

A type of judgment day supercomputer database beast type system…

I will leave you with the lamentation for Israel: an exhortation to return to God.

HEAR ye this word, which I take up concerning you for a lamentation. The house of Israel is fallen, and it shall rise no more.

The virgin of Israel is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up.

For thus saith the Lord God: The city, out of which came forth a thousand, there shall be left in it a hundred: and out of which there came a hundred, there shall be left in it ten, in the house of Israel.

For -thus saith the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek ye me, and you shall live.

But seek not Bethel, and go not into Galgal, neither shall you pass over to Bersabee: for Galgal shall go into captivity, and Bethel shall be unprofitable.

Seek ye the Lord, and live: lest the house of Joseph be burnt with fire, and it shall devour, and there shall be none to quench Bethel.

You that turn judgment into wormwood, and forsake justice in the land.

 Seek him that maketh Arcturus and Orion, and that turneth darkness into morning, and that changeth day into night:1 that calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.

He that with a smile bringeth destruction upon the strong, and waste upon the mighty.

They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly.

Therefore, because you robbed the poor, and took the choice prey from him: you shall build houses with square stone, and shall not dwell in them: you shall plant most delightful vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them.

Because I know your manifold crimes, and your grievous sins: enemies of the just, taking bribes, and oppressing the poor in the gate.

Therefore, the prudent shall keep silence at that time, for it is an evil time.

God’s Mountain: The Original Mason Mark of Judah

God’s Mountain: The Original Mason Mark of Judah

The symbol called the Double Headed or Double Axe is one of the oldest, most used, and least understood symbols that can be found all throughout history and especially in regards to true history, mythology, and Masonry. Perhaps nowhere in the world has more of these symbols been found with supporting archeology, artifacts, and stories than that of Mount Ida and Knossos on the island of Crete in Greece.

One of the oldest, Holiest, and most ancient Masonic places in all of the Western world. (more…)

The Comacine Masters’ Global Masonic Knot

The Comacine Masters’ Global Masonic Knot

You will find that one of the most ancient and esteemed of all Freemasonic symbols is also the least known by many modern Masons. The symbol I speak of you will discover is not relayed to us in words or in history books, but can be found etched into the immortal stones of some of the Western world’s most prestigious Christian cathedrals.

But before we reveal the symbolism, we first must understand the history and mysticism that comes from the ancestors of modern-day Masons who were known in ancient times as the Comacine Masters (Magistri Comacini).

The Comacini derive their name from the Old Roman ruled colony called Novum Comum founded in 59 BCE by the Father of the Roman Empire – Julius Caesar. It was Julius who wisely imported 6000 colonists, among whom it was said there were 500 illustrious Greek or possibly Phoenician/Cretan families by which the population was formed.

One of these families was that of Plinius Secundus, also known as Pliny the Elder who became a “Roman Citizen” and I believe his family originally immigrated to Italy from either Athens or Crete and settled in Lake Como with those first colonists which also happened to a favorite resort of the Greeks who traveled there often;

Freemasonic historian, Albert C. Mackey had written about the younger Pliny having a villa there that was made by a mane name Mustio who was a Comacine architect. Mackey writes;

“It is usual to record that Como was the birthplace of the elder and younger Pliny. The younger Pliny had a villa here called Comedia and was much interested in building the city having founded baths, a library, and aided in charity for the support of orphan children.

Of the many letters of the younger Pliny that remain, one is to his builder, Mustio, a Comacine architect, commissioning him to restore the temple of the Eleusinian Ceres, in which, after explaining the form of design he wished it to take, he concludes.”

Mackey said; “There are found many interesting intrench remains of early carvings of the Comacine or Solomon’s Knot (see the illustration of parapet). On a site of an earlier church stands the present Cathedral of Como, which is built entirely of marble. (1)

Like Mackey, I have also found Comacine Masonic Master’s Monuments that still stand to this very day all over the world such as Greece, Italy, Ireland, England, Germany, Switzerland, and Russia. An International bridge of wisdom hidden in stone connecting all Masons and also the Christian heritage regardless of their race, religion, and or nationality.

This Cosmopolitanian fact would extend into the religious world given the fact that the Comacine and Frank Freemasons were the main Operative Masons since the time Saint Augustine and Saint Bede to be employed by the Roman Catholic Church in the building of all their stone cathedrals. Saint Bede, Doctor of the Catholic Church and Father of English History describes these events as it relates to his time in the book, The historical works of the venerable Bede;

“After an interval of not more than a single year from the foundation of the monastery, Benedict crossed the ocean and passed into Gaul, when he made inquiry for masons who could build him a church of stone after the Roman style, which he always loved. These he obtained, and brought them home with him; and such zeal in the work did he exhibit—out of his love for the blessed Peter, to whose honour he was doing this—that in the course of one year from the time when the foundations were laid, the church was roofed over, and within it you might have witnessed the celebration of masses.”

When the work was drawing to its completion, he sent messengers to Gaul to bring over glassmakers (a kind of workman hitherto unknown in Britain) to glaze the windows of the church, and its aisles‘ and chancels.”

Bede further writes; “And so it happened that when they came they not only accomplished that particular work which was required of them, but from this time they caused the English nation to understand and learn this kind of handicraft, which was of no inconsiderable utility for the enclosing of the lamps of the church, or for various uses to which vessels are put. Moreover, this religious trader took care to import from the regions beyond the sea, if he could not find them at home, whatever related to the ministry of the altar and the church, and to holy vessels, and vestments.”

Freemasonic historian and author, Joseph Fort Newton, summarizes this history succinctly in his early 20th-century publication, The Builders, Newton had written;

“With the conquest of Britain by the Romans, the Collegia, without which no Roman society was complete,made their advent into the island, traces of their work remaining even to this day. Under the direction of the mother College at Rome, the Britons are said to have attained to high degree of excellence as builders, so that when the cities of Gaul and the fortresses along the Rhine were destroyed, Chlorus, A. D. 298, sent to Britain for architects to repair or rebuild them. Whether the Collegia existed in Britain after the Romans left, as some affirm, or were suppressed, as we know they were on the Continent when the barbarians overran it, is not clear.

Probably they were destroyed, or nearly so, for with the revival of Christianity in 598 A. D., we find Bishop Wilfred of York joining with the Abbott of Wearmouth in sending to France and Italy to induce Masons to return and build in stone, as he put it, “after the Roman manner.”

This confirms the Italian chroniclists who relate that Pope Gregory sent several of the fraternity of Liberi muratori with St. Augustine, as, later, they followed St. Boniface into Germany.

Again, in 604, Augustine sent the monk Pietro back to Rome with a letter to the same Pontiff, begging him to send more architects and workmen, which he did.

As the Liberi muratori were none other than the Comacine Masters, it seems certain that they were at work in England long before the period with which the OLD CHARGES begin their story of English Masonry. Among those sent by Gregory was Paulinus, and it is a curious fact that he is spoken of under the title of Magister, by which is meant, no doubt, that he was a member of the Comacine order, for they so described their members; and we know that many monks were enrolled in their lodges, having studied the art of building under their instruction.

St. Hugh of Lincoln was not the only Bishop who could plan a church, instruct the workman, or handle a hod. Only, it must be kept in mind that these ecclesiastics who became skilled in architecture were taught by the Masons, and that it was not the monks, as some seem to imagine, who taught the Masons their art. Speaking of this early and troublous time, Giuseppe Merzaria says that only one lamp remained alight, making a bright spark in the darkness that extended over Europe:

It was from the Magistri Comacini. Their respective names are unknown, their individual works unspecialized, but the breadth of their spirit might be felt all through those centuries, and their name collectively is legion. We may safely say that of all the works of art between p. 115 A. D. 800 and 1000, the greater and better part are due to that brotherhood—always faithful and often secret—of the Magistri Comacini. The authority and judgment of learned men justify the assertion.” (2)

According to Albert Mackey, for this Great Work, Freemasons are indebted to the Catholic Church and these Masons for building these Roman Churches. Mackey had said, “We Speculative Masons should give full credit to the Roman Catholic Church for employing and fostering our Operative Brethren through many centuries and making possible Speculative Freemasonry of to-day, even though the Church is now our avowed enemy.”

These French Comacine masons that Bede mention I have found were known for their opus gallicum (Latin for “Gallic work”). This was a technique where precise holes were created in stone masonry for the insertion of wooden infrastructure. These building techniques are mentioned in Julius Caesar’s De bello Gallico and they were used extensively in church architecture.

In researching this history, it appears that the Comacine Masters had really gained momentum during the invasions of Rome by the Lombards of Germany when they gained their patronage. According to Mackey;

“The Lombards, who had come from northern Germany and settled in northern Italy in 568, at once began to develop along many lines which made Lombardy known all over Europe—the result of which influence Europe feels to-day. They developed along lines which in our every-day parlance may be called business.

They were not primarily architects or builders, and they employed the Comacines for this kind of work and it was the Comacines who developed what is known today as Lombard architecture, covering a period that we may roughly put as from the seventh century to the Renaissance.

The first to draw attention to the name Magistri Comacini was the erudite Muratori, that searcher out of ancient manuscripts, who unearthed from the archives an edict, dated November 22, 643, signed by Rotharis, in which are included two clauses treating of the Magistri Comacini and their colleagues. ” (1)

In an old publication, the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Volume 6 it says;

“Our earliest documentary token of the corporate activity of the Guild is to be found in an edict of King Rotharis, dated 643, and brought to light by the archaeologist Muratori, which contains two clauses relating to the conditions for compensation and liability for accidents on buildings under the charge of the Magistri Comacini.

These are sufficient to prove their existence as a recognized body in the seventh century. Their origin has been ascribed by various theorists to Rome, Byzantium, and the East. The Germans, I believe, have been the chief supporters of the theory of Byzantine origin, while that which points to an Oriental source depends upon the internal evidence in the works of the Guild of supposed Eastern symbolism in certain forms of decoration. On the whole, the view that the Comacine masters are the descendants of the Roman collegia is the best attested and the most inherently probable.

It is backed by the prevalence of what we may call Comacine work in many of the so-called Lombard and pre-Lombard churches of Rome, in one of which, the Sub-Church of San Clemente, a fresco of the eighth century represents what Leader Scott claims to be a Magister in the act of directing his subordinates.

Cesare Cantu, in his Storia di Como, perhaps in jealousy for the special honour of Como, looks upon the Comacine Magistri as the parents of modern Freemasonry. Whether this be so, or whether the Comacine masons were only a link in a still longer chain of succession, there is no doubt as to the points of similarity in the Comacine constitution and that of the Freemasons.” (3)

Looking further into this lost history, I found some fascinating information shared by the authors, J. G. Findel, ‎Carl van Dalen in a German book on the History of Freemasonry. They write;

“Upon the overthrow of the Republic, when all other corporations lost their privileges, owing to the despotism of the Emperors, the thirst of the rulers for splendor and renown caused the collegia to be confirmed in nearly all their former rights‘ and privileges. Three members were at least required to form a college, and no one was allowed to be a member of several colleges at the same time.

Lay or amateur members (patrons) were admitted; the corporations held their meetings in secluded rooms or buildings exclusively appropriated to that purpose, and most of them had their own schools for the instruction of apprentices and lower grades of workmen. They had also their own peculiar religious ceremonies and priests, and an exchequer belonging to the corporation, an archive, and their own seals.

The members took an oath mutually to assist each other; indigent members received relief, and on their demise were buried at the expense of the corporation. They kept registers of the members, some of which are still extant; they had also their records, their masters (magistri), wardens (decuriones), fellow-crafts and apprentices, censors, treasurers, keepers of archives, secretaries, and serving brethren.”

The authors conclude, “Their tools and implements had, besides, a symbolical meaning, and in religious matters they were tolerant.” (4)

The Grand Lodge Bulletin, Volumes 15-17 details how they were not ordinary workmen, but true artists whose symbol was King Solomon’s Knot and when the Comacine were driven out of Rome, they took refuge in Lombardy, Northern Italy;

“When the Collegia were driven out of Rome, they took refuge in Lombardy, and the Comacine Masters were almost certainly their successors. Those Masters were not ordinary workmen. They were artists, and to them were due to the changes in styles of architecture in Europe during the cathedral-building period, as Hallam tells us in his study of the Middle Ages. For a long time these changes of style, appearing simultaneously everywhere, puzzled students. Further knowledge of this powerful and wide-spread order explained it.

They had their lodges, each with its master and wardens; their oaths, tokens, grips, and passwords, which, as Hallam says, formed a bond of union stronger than legal ties. They wore white aprons and gloves.

“King Solomon’s Knot” was one of their emblems, and the endless, interwoven cord another—but, later, the lion’s paw became their symbol. With the decline of Gothic architecture their order seems to have declined, or, rather, coalesced with the other guilds of masons.” (5)

The Quatuor Coronati Masonic Research Lodge details this time period showing that it was under the patronage of Charlemagne that the Comacine had truly flourished into an international order connecting Masons in Italy, France, and Germany and how the Bavarian Catholic Illuminatus, Albertus Magnus has helped strengthen their bonds by his writings. They had written;

“It was under the widespread rule of Charlemagne that the Comacines began their many emigrations. Adrian I. wrote for Magisiri from the north of Italy to execute works in Rome, and still existing Comacine intricacy are a proof of their work there in the 9th “century. Charlemagne is known to have brought marbles from Italy for his church at Aix-la-Chapelle, and the Lombard character of its style suggests that he also imported architects, who could scarcely have been other than the Comacine Masters.

In the troublous times which succeeded the withdrawal of the Carlovingian dynasty from Italy the Guild found more employment in building castles than churches, and it was not until the distant warfare of the Crusades left Italy comparatively tranquil that the art of sculpturesque architecture revived. Leader Scott gives the genealogy of the style as follows:

“ First the Comacines continued Roman traditions as the Romans continued Etruscan “ ones; next, they orientalized their style by their connection with the East through “ Aquileia, and the influx of Greek exiles into the Guild. Later came a different influence “ through the Saracens into the South, and the Italian Gothic was born.”

Independently of Charlemagne the great building guild of the Middle Ages had another connection with France through the Normans. The old chronicles shew that S. Guillaume, Abbot of S. Benigne in Dijon, a Lombard by birth, sent to his own country for Masters to build his monastery there, and further that he was invited to Normandy by Duke Richard II., where he stayed twenty years erecting monasteries and sacred buildings, and that when William of Normandy conquered England the round arched style passed ‘over with him.

Certainly the oldest churches both in Normandy and England have great affinity to Lombard buildings, the chief difference being that the roof has a higher pitch, necessitated by the damp climate. Leader Scott adduces evidence to show that at the time of the Norman occupation of Sicily there was a large emigration thither of members of the Comacine Guild; which accounts for the architecture there having so much more affinity to Italian than to French-Norman forms; and it also accounts for the Saracenic cast which Lombard architecture took after that era.

In Germany the style of buildings, such as are found at Cologne, Worms, Speyer and Zurich, seems to prove that Lombard influence preceded the native Gothic architects who subsequently developed the pointed style. Leader Scott’s theory is that in their earlier emigrations the Comacine Masters founded the usual lodges; that the Germans entered their schools and became Masters in their turn, and eventually split off from the universal Masonic Brotherhood, forming a separate national branch. Albertus Magnus, a Bavarian who studied at Padua, strengthened the link between Germany and Italy.” (6)

BEFORE THE GERMAN REICH, THERE WAS THE GREEKS AND PHOENCIANS

If we are to look back to the history of the first Comacine Masters under Julius and Augustus Caesar, we will find that they were visiting and building in Germany since that time and even Pliny the Elder who at the age of about 23 went to Germany, where he served under L. Pomponius Secundus to the command of a troop of cavalry (praefectus alae), and afterward wrote a memoir of Secundus. It was said that Pliny had traveled over most of the frontier of Germany and the Danube where he composed over 20 books including his treatise de Jaculatione equestri and a history of the Germanic wars.

When Pliny went back to Rome it was said to be during part of the reign of Nero when he spent his day in retirement. (7)

This Comacine connection to Pliny and Nero I detail in my 2nd follow up article, “The Lost Masonic Treasure of the Comacine,” where I will put forth research of a possible lost hoard of gold that appears to belong to the exact time period and to Ceasar’s Comacine Masters

THE COMACINE LOST SYMBOL

The symbol that ties Masons to one another through the Ages is called the “Comacine Knot” and also “Solomon’s Knot.” In Latin, sigillum Salomonis, meaning the “Seal of Solomon” to represent the “immortality and eternity” of their Great Work and also time, motion, and the powers of ancient hidden forces that govern our universe.

Here is an excerpt from the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland showing the importance of this symbol;

“The existence of the guild under the Longobard rule having been proved, and their intimate connexion with and responsibility for the erection of the most famous buildings of the Lombardic type, the author goes on to show the numerous foreign emigrations of the Comacine Masons and establishes the Norman and German link.

An interesting chapter on the origin of Saxon architecture by the author’s brother, the Rev. W. Miles Barnes, tends to show that the Comacines were the survival of the Roman Collegia, and that when St. Augustine came to England he brought architects and masons with him, and that these would be chosen from the Comacines then firmly established under the patronage of the Popes.

For Irish archaeologists, the most interesting theory is that developed in the chapter on the Pound Towers and Crosses of Ireland, whereby a Comacine influence is shown in the ornament of our Crosses. The interlaced work, so long considered as peculiarly Celtic, is shown to be purely Comacine, and whether known as the Italian intreccio, meandro, or “Solomon’s knot,” it is the distinguishing badge of the Comacine Masons.

The author, in this connexion, says on page 82:

“In studying the scrolls and geometrical decoration of the Comacines, one immediately perceives that the intreccio, or interlaced work is one of their special marks. I think it would be difficult to find any church or sacred edifice, or even altar of the Comacine work under the Longobards which is not signed, as it were, by some curious interlaced knot or meander, formed of a single tortuous line. The Comacine believed in his mystic knot; to him, it was a sign of the inscrutable and infinite ways of God whose nature is unity. The traditional name of these interfacings among Italians is ‘Solomon’s knot.'” (8)

To add to the story of this symbology, I interpret it as an interlacing global knot of living human stones who have been imbued into the very stones that they put their heart and souls into. A Testament of the Masonic will to one day create a worldwide temple of Wisdom under God and our Lord allegorically referred to in the ancient teachings as “Solomon’s Temple.”

It is in the meaning of Comacine that all Freemasons of the past, present, and future must realize that tie them together in a multi-racial, multi-ethnicity, and multi-national corporation of operative artificers. In my articles on their Capitals named Tyre, I list many of their major Masonic cities starting in Egypt then to the West in Crete and into Europe.

The Knot of the Comacine reveals to us a compound word comprised of the words “com, a and cine” that constitute the ancient ethos of the order.

The word com means “with, together, unite” and derivative words with similar meaning would be words like commune, community, comrade, commissar, communist, etc.

The meaning of the word ‘a’ is “to identify a thing or person and used to indicate membership of a class of people or things”

The last word in Comacine is cine which means tribe, clan, kindred, or Brothers.

It is derived Anglo-Saxon Cynn, Old English Kin, Irish Cine, Scotch Gaelic Cinneadh or Cinne, and Welsh Cenell derived from a root Cinn, to grow or increase, and meaning the increase or growth of a family, tribe or clan by successive generations.”(9) Also cennan; German kennen, to know, kindred; acquaintance: kith and kin, blood relations; friends and relations. (10)

Words derived from this Brotherhood are kind and kindness ie: goodwill and benevolence. (11)
