(SOURCE: Midnight Freemasons – James E Frey, 32°) – My Brethren, one of the most mysterious symbols within our society is the mythical All Seeing Eye we receive in the third degree of the
Ancient Craft. This symbol in ritual is mentioned as “the All seeing eye whom the sun, moon, and stars obey, and under whose watchful care comets perform their stupendous revolutions, beholds the inmost recesses of the human heart, and will reward us according to our works.” In ritual this reminds us of the obligation we owe to God, not in any religious context, but to the universality of God and mankind. As Masons the eye has had many meanings throughout our long rich history. But the true understanding and deeper meaning is a revelation of the meaning of the Master Mason’s degree.
Albert Mackey writes that the All Seeing Eye is “An important symbol of the Supreme Being, borrowed by the Freemasons from the nations of antiquity.” The All Seeing Eye is a symbol representing the watchful gaze of God. It reminds us that every thought and action is to be recorded by the Grand Architect of the Universe, and that we are bound to our obligations in spirit as well as in blood.
As Masons we are to act upon the square of virtue and keep our passions in due bounds, that is what we swore to uphold on our honor as a man and a mason. This is the general exoteric explanation for this symbol in modern masonry. This is because the eye was adopted into Masonry in 1797 in Thomas Webb’s Official Freemason’s Monitor. The Masons during the enlightenment era referred to this as the Eye of Providence, which represents God’s gaze over humanity. They saw it as a symbol to represent unity of religious denominations in this new era of enlightenment which ended the dark ages and gave birth to modern democracy. (more…)

The pentagram is a five-pointed star that is a symbol of man with his five limbs and five sensory organs. It also represents
PHI or the Golden Rule of the Universal Law in which all nature and humans must live by to evolve. The pentagram is also used in both white and black magic to invoke light energy (angels and saints) or dark energy (devils and demons). Think of it as a symbol in the occult (hidden) world that represents both, an enter and an exit door for the spirit and astral world in which we cannot normally see with our own two eyes.
Not all magicians or adepts use the symbol of the pentagram in the same way and there are two main types such as the above image that are mainly used in the occult world. The upright and proper pentagram, with one point in the air or pointed upwards and with the two points downward represents spirit over matter, such as the image below that shows the various elements of the five points represented in spirit, air, fire, water, and earth. This is the pentagram used in white magic to give the magician noble powers. (more…)

The sign of the Pentagram represents the macrocosm of the number five, and numerical equation of PHI in the union of the AS ABOVE and SO BELOW. The AS ABOVE consists of the air, stars, heavens and spiritual world, with the SO BELOW which is made of the earth, water and fire, to then form the AS WITHIN, SO WITHOUT in the DNA and mind of man. To put it simply, we humans are fallen stars and to earn our place in the heavens, we must shine brightly and upright while living on earth.
Our fall from grace and the light is represented in Isaiah 14:12 – How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
The upright pentagram (not inverted), such as the one pictured (to the above right and below left), is a symbol of the spiritual man who has dominion over the animal world (SO BELOW) with the five limbs and sensory organs that are represented by the symbolism of the 5 pointed pentagram. This spiritual man would be akin to the allegorical Jesus Christ or Buddha, who are symbolic of highly spiritual people who have complete dominion over the animal world and their animal bodies or passions. They are the fallen stars from the heavens who then become blazing morning stars of the dawn that illuminate the dark waters of the abyss (humanity, earth or society) through their wise teachings. They are living examples of truth, and how we should all live in love, humility and service to others.
The light of these stars can be found in the biblical passage of Peter 1:19 who had said, “We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
“Let us keep the figure of the Five-pointed Star always upright, with the topmost triangle pointing to heaven, for it is the seat of wisdom, and if the figure is reversed, perversion and evil will be the result.” – Hartmann, Franz (1895) [1886]. Magic, White and Black (5th ed.). (more…)

CHARGE TO THE MASTER OF THE SECOND VEIL
The initiation ritual to this degree re-enacts the return to Jerusalem of three Most Excellent Masons who were held captive in Babylon.
Companion :—I invest you with the purple banner, which is the ensign of your office, and arm you with a sword, to enable you to maintain its honor. The color of your banner is produced by a due mixture of blue and scarlet; the former of which is the characteristic color of the symbolic or first three degrees of masonry, and the latter, that of the royal arch degree. It is an emblem of union, and is the characteristic color of the intermediate degrees. It admonishes us to cultivate and improve that spirit of union and harmony, between the brethren of the symbolic degrees and the companions of the sublime degrees, which should ever distinguish the members of a society founded upon the principles of everlasting truth and universal philanthropy.
“Master of Second Veil: “Three Most Excellent Masters you must have been, or thus far you could not have come; but farther you cannot go without my words, sign, and word of exhortation. My words are Shem, Japhet, and Adoniram; my sign is this: (thrusting his hand in his bosom); it is in imitation of one given by God to Moses, when He commanded him to thrust his hand into his bosom, and, taking it out, it became as leprous as snow. My word of exhortation is explanatory of this sign, and is found in the writings of Moses, viz., fourth chapter of Exodus”:
“And the Lord said unto Moses, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom; and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow” -Malcolm C. Duncan, Duncan’s Masonic Ritual and Monitor

In ancient Egypt, the symbol for “plant” meaning “Tree of Life” was the three sacred lotus lilies. To ancient Egyptians and their children who still honor these customs, the lotus is the symbolic plant of life, immortality, resurrection and sacred knowledge. In the funeral and re-birth ceremonies, the lotus was closely associated with processions and the imagery of the funerary Cult of Osiris, in which we find the God of light and truth; Horus, seated upon the lotus (pictured to the left). Evidence of the lotus being involved in their funeral ceremonies had been found in the tomb of Ramesses II.
The Egyptian Blue Water-lily, N. caerulea, or lotus was chosen as a symbol for the brotherhood because the ancient Egyptians believed that all life had originated from the Lotus and that creation began when the lotus had gave birth to the dual God, Amon- Ra, on the surface of a primordial ocean. Like the sun, the lotus at dusk closes its flowers as it prepares for the dark night and at the first sign of the morning rays of the sun, it opens its flowers again as if it is “reborn by the light.”
This lotus symbolizes the separation of the God Amon-Ra who is both Amon, the Hidden God and the God of Truth who is our Ammon’s Horn (Hippocampus) and also Ra, the God of light who is Lucifer (Phosphorus) in our DNA represented in imagery by the sun.
33rd Degree Freemason, Master Rosicrucian and author, Manly P. Hall had said this of the Lotus –
May your consciousness be lifted upward through the Tree of Life within yourself until in the brain it blossoms forth as the Lotus, that rising from the darkness of the lower world, lifts its flower to catch the rays of the sun.
Your consciousness comes from both, your Ammon’s Horn (Hippocampus) in which the tree of life, AKA our DNA, is then combined with the light of Lucifer (Phosphorus) in our DNA, so we too are reborn and rise like the rays of the sun or lotus in the morning. (more…)

This is the serpent crown of the ancient Gods. It shows that the two paths or parts of the spirit fire have been united. This crown is the symbol of mastery and the union takes place within the student when the life forces are lifted to the brain. – Manly P. Hall
Since the most ancient times in history, the symbolical worship of the serpent has been seen world wide and is found everywhere, from here in America, to ancient Babylonia, Assyria, Mesopotamia, Persia, India, Cachmere, China, Japan, Arabia, Syria, Colchis, and Asia Minor. Since the dawn of recorded human time, many of our ancestors had recorded their adoration of the serpent in stone, onto walls and on paper. Without a doubt it is one of the most ancient and widely accepted symbols of spiritual wisdom that has ever been in existence.
The serpent in most all cultures has a similar meaning and is generally accepted as a symbol of divine wisdom and spiritual purity. In Gnosticism, the serpent represents eternity of the soul of the world and in the Gnostic text Pistis Sophia it describes the disc of the sun as a 12-part dragon with his tail in his mouth. Helena Blavatsy says that serpent worship was spread across the globe by “the Masters of Wisdom, and that all Initiates into the Sacred Mysteries, are called Nagas, or Serpents of Wisdom.
Alexander the Great, before he had become the son of Jupiter Ammon in the Siwa Oasis, was said to be the son of a serpent. Augustus Caesar’s mother Atia in legend had Augustus from a serpent and Scipio Africanus was said that he believed he was the son of a snake. (more…)
